In an age where it seems like students have shorter and shorter attention spans especially when engaging with long form narratives such as Myths and Epics, it benefits us to revisit the fundamentals of teaching these texts. What is a myth and why would anyone read one?

Drawing from Timothy G. Patitsas’ book The Ethics of Beauty we will answer the question of reading myth, how beauty will save the world, and how symbolic literacy reveals the beautiful. We will explore these ideas through applying them to the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur and discover why Beauty must be primary among the transcendentals.
