Very few writing teachers do all that much writing. Just ask them. Ask a writing teacher how many poems, short stories, essays, or books he has written in the last year (or the last five years, for that matter). Writing teachers who don’t write much tend to make rather outlandish promises to parents about what a writing curriculum can accomplish, which is one of the reasons why most schools switch their writing program every three or four years. However, writers take a different approach to teaching writing. Joshua Gibbs offers a few non-curricular, non-programmatic takes on teaching writing in this lecture.
