Presented at the CiRCE Fall Regional Conference 2023.
This talk will explore the manner in which artists throughout history have used art and architecture to draw the viewer’s soul upward. Considering art from the Ancient Greeks, early Roman Christians, Medieval Byzantines, Renaissance Europeans, and Modernists, we will travel through time to explore the relation between the soul and body, the human and the heavens, and the temporal and eternal, to see how the artist has consciously elicited desire and directed it to a pre-determined end.
