This webinar is brought to you by our guide: The Journey Home- A Guide to Homer’s OdysseyClick here to learn more!

In the book, Invitation to the Classics, Glenn Arbery writes that “In many ways the Western literary tradition is a series of astonished encounters with the greatness of Homer.” Eva Brann observed that “Reading Homer’s poems is one of the purest, most inexhaustible pleasures life has to offer…”

The Odyssey, the second of Homer’s two timeless epics, is the homecoming story. The wise, crafty Odysseus faces peril after peril, sent his way by the wrath of Poseidon, all in the hope of returning to his beloved wife, son, and homeland. Unlike Achilles, whose glory can only be attained through death in battle (and thus never returning to his homeland), the glory of Odysseus is precisely his return home.

So how do we expect to plumb the depths of Homer’s Odyssey in a 90-minute webinar? We don’t! We can, however, extend an invitation. Our hope, like a fine hors d’ oeuvre, is to simply increase your appetite, leading you to enjoy the full meal.

Join Dr. Brian Phillips for An Invitation to the Odyssey, a 90-minute webinar introducing Homer’s second timeless epic.
