The Fables of Aesop is out now!

Twelfth Night

Today we enjoy the twelfth day of Christmas, celebrated in the east as Theophany (the revelation of the trinity in the baptism of Christ) and in the west as Epiphany (the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles in the persons of the magi). Expect twelve drummers to turn up on your doorstep some time today.

In the 4th or early 5th century, St. John Chrysostom delivered a sermon on the place and value of this feast day. You can’t see it on YouTube, but if you’d like to read it click here.

Get out those drums and drum! You might also want to watch or read Twelfth Night and see if you can figure out why Shakespeare gave it that name.
