YOU ARE INVITED TO
The Art of Inquiry: A Retreat on Norms & Nobility
Designed for administrators and teachers in Christian classical schools, this retreat is sponsored by the CiRCE Institute and will be a concentrated study of the powerful book, Norms and Nobility: A Treatise On Education by David Hicks.
Limited to 12 participants, this intimate, inspiring conversation will take place in beautiful Blowing Rock, North Carolina at the Blowing Rock Conference Center.
According to Hicks classical education is not primarily concerned with a particular time or place, but stands instead for “a spirit of inquiry and a form of instruction concerned with the development of style through language and of conscience through myth. The key word here is inquiry. Everything springs from the special nature of the inquiry” (Hicks, 18).
This retreat will examine the nature of this inquiry by looking primarily at the following elements of Christian classical education:
- Normative vs. Analytical Questions
- Prescriptive vs. Descriptive nature of education
- The intensely relational nature of classical education
- Dialectical teaching methods
- Christian Paideia
