Remembering Washington

George Washington.
Image via Wikipedia

George Washington died 211 years ago today. A congressional “committee of 33” seeking to resolve the secession crisis pretty much died 150 years ago today, leaving the southern states in a condition of uncertainty.

If my memory is sound, Virginia had voted just yesterday not to secede. How we needed a Washington in 1860!

Comparing the revolution to the civil war, which is very difficult to do because both are so complex, makes me realize just how great a man George Washington was, and how much good a great man can do.

May another arise.
