The poet S. T. Coleridge whispers these words to his beloved Sara while listening to the song of the viewless skylark at their pretty cot by the sea in his poem Reflections on Having Left A Place of Retirement. This idea of “unearthly minstrelsy” draws our attention to the relationship of two worlds, the one breaking into the other and providing a momentary glimpse of something greater. In such a moment, the poet feels the pull of both heaven and earth. How he manages this tension is the subject of the poem.
