We should think about everything we do in the light of the Christian faith, and this especially applies to education; but what does it mean? How do we do it? The early church lived and struggled in a hostile, pagan culture and worked through these questions long before we did, but we forget that and try to reinvent the wheel. We ought to expend far more time and energy than we do in studying them to see what they said about what education is for, how we should do it, how to read the pagan classics, how to defend the faith, and other top-level questions.
