The Five Worlds of Man and their Effect on Education:In this talk, Dr. Matthew Bianco will describe the five worlds of man and his governments and examine the effect each has on how we approach education, even from a classical perspective. The talk will take us through the aristocratic city and man, the timocratic city and man, the oligarchic city and man, the democratic city and man, and the tyrannical city and man as described in Plato’s Republic Books VIII and IX. For the effects of those worlds, he will consider how our values (as demonstrated by the kind of city we are in or the kind of person we are) affect the decisions we make regarding our classical schools, homeschools, co-ops, and even the decisions we make regarding college and career choices.
