Liberal democratic society grew out of the need to limit religiously denominational warfare. It has been very successful but has forgotten its history. It has no adequate account of what it means to be human… the constant tension between what we know and what we do. Really thoughtful unbelievers are recognising that without the moderating and motivating influence of Christianity there is no basis for true altruism and a form of justice that can control power. Thus our children must be taught cultural history so that they can celebrate what The Lord has done for “us” and also “them”.
