This question takes teachers and students alike to the foundations of what they do. In this session, we will address Plato’s description of education in the Republic as the art of turning the soul from nonbeing to being. Through discussion and exposition of the famous cave allegory, we will investigate the theoretical meaning and practical implications for educators at all levels of what it means to say that education turns souls from nonbeing to being.
