Explore the stories and legends that Tolkien used to form his legendarium, along with the foundation of that legendarium ‘The Silmarillion’. This course starts with several Lost Tools of Writing Level 1 review essays using stories from Sigurd and Gudrún to ensure a firm foundation on which to move to Lost Tools of Writing Level 2, the judicial essay. We will be exploring the virtue of justice in the context of the decisions made by Fëanor, Túrin Turambar, Beren and Lúthien, and the men of Númenor as we read selected texts by J.R.R. Tolkien.
