This course is designed for the older student who has successfully completed at least one year of Lost Tools of Writing Level I. Instruction will begin in the fall with a review of Level I materials with a review of Essay 6. From there, we will proceed to Essay 7/8 in Level I and then a slow introduction into Level II. In this two day a week course, the student will be introduced to problems of bias, explorations of justice, laws, evidence, and motives. Students will use the updated Lost Tools Level 2 edition for this course.
During our first semester, we will explore the adventures of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island and Kidnapped. In our second semester, we will explore Alexandre Dumas’s The Count of Monte Cristo. During both semesters, we will experience strong characters that challenge us to ask whether their actions were justified. Using these characters alongside our Lost Tools of Writing I and II, students will contemplate friendships and justice by learning to write the judicial address.
