Students will read The Red Badge of Courage, The Scarlet Letter, To Kill a Mockingbird, and *Fahrenheit 451 interspersed with American short stories. While we will discuss the literature, the focus of this class will be to understand and write persuasive essays. I will also introduce students to the habit of keeping a commonplace book and the skill of organizing completed work as an artifact.
