What qualities make a good leader? Can a good leader also be a good man? Building on the foundation of Lost Tools of Writing Level I, we will read and discuss the parallel lives of Cato The Younger and Phocion of Athens using The Statesmen and the Lost Tools of Writing Comparison Essay.

This semester-long class will enable students to solidify many of the skills learned in Lost Tools of Writing Level I and explore the form of Comparison Essay. Our readings will introduce us to Plutarch’s depiction of two men who endeavored to preserve the tradition and ideal of their country.
