Modern people do not like institutions. They do not trust institutions. Institutions are formal, cold, idealistic, and indifferent to public opinion. Institutions are hierarchical, not egalitarian. Consequently, many classical Christian schools claim to be families. Families are warm, personal, caring, and inviting. But the family metaphor is driving competent teachers mad. In this lecture, Joshua Gibbs takes a broad survey of all the problems created by the family metaphor and explains why re-branding your school as an institution will help your school last, be more peaceful, and attract better faculty.
