Poetic Knowledge is not the study of poetry, though it can include poetry. Poetic Knowledge is the kind of knowledge a student has after certain kinds of encounters and experiences with anything he might learn: a language, mathematics, science, poetry, literature, art, etc. What is poetic knowledge and how do we create these certain kinds of encounters and experiences? In this course, Dr. Matthew Bianco will describe and explain poetic knowledge and give examples of how to teach in a way that creates these “certain kinds of encounters and experiences.”
Week 1 – What is poetic knowledge?
Week 2 – A Poetic Encounter with Latin
Week 3 – A Poetic Encounter with Science
Week 4 – A Poetic Encounter with Poetry
At the end of this course, you will have a better understanding of what poetic knowledge is and some examples for how to teach in a way that creates poetic experiences. By offering poetic encounters with three different subject matters, teachers will hopefully be able to recreate these experiences in their own subject areas.
