We have a complicated relationship with technology. As I type this I’m surrounded by three computers, an iPad (mini), an iPhone, two printers, a CD/DVD duplicator, a broken fax machine, multiple external hard drives, and a couple of wireless gadgets. As a small business that operates largely through the internet we rely heavily on these technological tools and will, of course, continue to do so increasingly as we move forward. And, full disclosure, we like our gadgets as much as the next person. I mean, just look at all those apps! But I’m also surrounded by books and LTW materials and boxes full of books and LTW materials. We are dedicated to a set of ideas that seem to be inherently antithetical to the modern cult of technology, ideas that are, if nothing else, so much bigger than any gadget or technological advancement.
So while technology has its place and has, undoubtedly, enabled us to spread the Truth of classical education in ways otherwise impossible, we realize the need to tread lightly and carefully. You probably do as well.
So, with that in mind, here’s this week’s Question of the Week: What role does technology play in your classrooms, whether at home or in a traditional school setting?
